2012 NASCAR Season, Divorce, GoDaddy, and Danicky -- My Opinion

It's been a while since I've updated the blog. Life is funny like that. And due to the launching of Me v4.0 this Spring, I've been going through all of my online entities I manage and giving them all a "reboot". Which brings me to DanicaFanboy.com and this blog entry. As a new year should, 2013 seems to bring a high level of self "reinvention". With a new year comes opportunities to start all over and, hopefully this time around, do it the way you originally planned. It'll take a bit of time of figuring what was learned and apply them to the changes we all make with our lives. But sooner or later, you have to produce in some sort of positive way, right? Well, as I go through my personal reinvention, I find it ironic considering Danica seems to be doing the same thing.

The NASCAR 2012 season for Danica seemed to be a crazy ride of  "Does she deserve to be here?" and "Yes, she deserves to be here!" and then again "Really, does she really get this thing?". With the changes toward the end of the season, and the end of her racing relationship with JR Motorsports, the question that is on everybody's minds going into the start of the 2013 season is, "She's now here in Sprint Cup, is she ready?". Apparently, only time will tell. But if anybody understands it'll always come down to race results, Danica gets that. She always understood this, and I have a funny feeling results will be in her favor this season. The "roller coaster" that was Danica's Nationwide Series effort in 2012, and also the personal life "issues" that entailed to her divorce of her husband of 7 years, Paul Hospenthal, it's fair to say in 2013 Danica is ready to "reboot".

GoDaddy continues to be Danica's main sponsor and every year I always look forward to the cheesy Super Bowl commercials. Don't get me wrong, I have had my GoDaddy account since 1997 and always liked the service I've received from the company. But I think owner Bob Parsons is a huge "tool", and whatever agency of record that was doing the advertising for GoDaddy rightfully got fired. Which brings me to this year's commercials. YourBigIdea.CO was fun with Danica as the pilot of the private jet, but I guess my complaint of it had to be the production quality was just awful. I mean it was a good idea for a commercial, but it lacked on levels I can't explain...unless I go into my "advertising creative director" mode and I really don't want to go there here. As for the Perfect Match commercial, the only good thing about that commercial was that Danica was in it. It was just a bad idea through and through. I guess what I'm saying is I'm just happy GoDaddy signs over the checks for Danica to race every weekend.

This weekend is the start of the 2013 NASCAR season. And, of course, DanicaStalk will be in effect as I will be seeing her at a few of the races this year. But the thing that keeps me annoyed about the start of this season is people asking me about "Danicky". Honestly, I really like Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.. I've rooted for him many times and I personally have no problem with Danica dating him. Stenhouse is a very talented driver and I hope he helps Danica learn how to be more aggressive on the track and take some chances. I was asked many times, "Jealous?". Of course I am!! But I look at it this way, as a very esteemed colleague once told me, "You don't want to be the rebound guy fresh off a separation." How so very, very true. And apparently, I won't be.
